It is unique because it offers both picosecond and nanosecond delivery. By offering both delivery systems, patients experience faster tattoo removal in fewer treatments on any color of tattoo. Why Is Tattoo Removal So Difficult?A tattoo results when the skin is punctured and pigment inserted into the lower layer of skin. The body’s own defense mechanism reacts to this ‘injury’ but is unable to cast out the larger particles of pigment. Before the development of laser therapy, the only alternatives available to people seeking to have their tattoos removed were surgical excision, skin grafts and the use of salt, acid and other chemical abrasives.
Not only do these techniques cause considerable discomfort, they usually require a lengthy period of after-care and will typically replace the original tattoo with a scar. Some colors and application of tattoos are harder to remove than others. How does the Enlighten laser work to remove tattoos?
The Enlighten works by firing a beam of light through the skin in extremely short pulses. The light is absorbed by the tattoo ink creating a reaction which breaks the ink down into very tiny particles. The particles are removed over time by macrophages who carry off these fragments of ink. The Enlighten uses both picosecond and nanosecond technology to break up different types and colors of ink. Because each pulse is so short (typically 25 billionths of a second) and is targeted directly onto the pigment, there is normally no lasting damage to the skin or surrounding tissue. The whole procedure is repeated several times, usually at four to six weekly intervals, so allowing time for the body to remove as much pigment as possible.

How Many Treatments Are Required To Remove My Tattoo?
With the Enlighten technology 3-6 sessions of tattoo removal spaced 6 weeks apart are usually required to remove most tattoos. This is less than half the time of traditional tattoo removal lasers, which only use a singular nanosecond technology. A consultation with us will give you a better estimate of the number of treatments that may be required to remove your tattoo. Remember, the laser only does half of the job of removing tattoos. Your body must then move the ink through the body. Smoking may delay clearing of tattoos in same clients.
How Much Will My Treatment Cost?
Pricing for this procedure varies by size of the treatment area. Sizes include small (2X2”), medium (5X5”) and large (8X8”) and sleeves, which are quoted by size and time of treatment. Additional discounts are offered when removing more than one tattoo at a treatment time and paying for packages of 3 or 6 treatments at once.
How Long Does The Treatment Take?
A typical treatment session can last anything between five minutes to 30 minutes depending on the size and number of tattoos the client wishes to have removed.
Will The Treatment Hurt?
The treatment stings and may cause some minor discomfort which will start to subside when the session is over. It is our mission to make every effort to assure your comfort during any procedure.
Are There Any After Effects Following Treatment?
Some clients may blister. This is quite normal and does not indicate potential scarring. Rarely is any specific treatment required and it will usually clear within a few days. A dry dressing may be applied to avoid contact with clothes, etc. When bathing or showering, the area should be patted dry and not rubbed. If blistering occurs, prolonged immersion in water, e.g. swimming should be avoided.
What Can I Expect After Treatment?
After treatment with the Enlighten laser, we will apply an antibiotic cream and bandage the treated tattoos. The tattoo may sting, like a burn, for 2-4 hours post treatment. You will need to change the bandages and apply additional bacitracin or polysporin daily for 5 days. You may experience itching during the healing process.
During your series of tattoo removal treatments, the area should be protected from strong sunlight by means of a reputable sun-block cream or by covering the tattoo.

Can I Go Back To Work?
You can resume normal daily activities the next day. Avoid sun exposure, keep the area clean and avoid hot tubs and pools for 10 days.
